Training

For all new customers and change of contact personnel in existing customers, we recommend they attend the 1 day "Network Administrators" workshop. Whilst not mandatory, it is srongly recommended in order to ensure a basic level of competence, a degree of independence and better understanding of how to work with us.

The course is:

  • 1 day in Epsom & meet the staff
  • Each attendee has their own SBS 2003 server
  • Maximum 6 attendees for maximum tutor attention

The objective is to provide sufficient training for the attendee to:

  • Fulfil their Network Adminsitrators' Responsibilities;
  • Understand what checks are needed and how to do them;
  • Undertake basic routine tasks (see contents below);
  • Work effectively with the help-desk in diagnostic and remedial actions;
  • Have a sense of independence and satisfaction/achievement.

The day's course covers:

  • Basic Network Infrastructure (WANs, LANs, switches, wireless & routers);
  • Networking Principles (role of DHCP, DNS, IP addresses, WorkGroups Vs Domains);
  • Managing users (creating, passwords, Organisational Units, distribution lists, file permissions);
  • Email (setting up Outlook, reviewing and limiting mailox sizes, checking mail queues, adjusting anti-spam and aliases);
  • Routines (checking back-ups, anti-virus is updating, disk space etc);
  • How to use the support portal & meet your Customer Account Manager.
